Course Description: Students enrolling in this course will begin the course on campus at CSULB in June to cover the US portion of the course content. In July, the group will travel to Scotland and have additional learning experiences that focus on health care delivery systems from a global perspective as it relates to population outcomes and impact on delivery of care. Emphasis will be placed on examining current health care initiatives of WHO and the International Council of Nurses recommendations, based on the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals. By visiting Glasgow Caledonian University in Scotland, students will have a unique opportunity to explore alternative methods of health care delivery from a National Health System perspective. Students will engage in workshops, discussions, and field experiences with professors and practicing nurses in the field to obtain a broader understanding of global health issues and the similarities and differences between the two health systems and populations served. Opportunities for exploring the culture and countryside will be included in the stay, and students will also enjoy free time to explore neighboring areas as interested.
Join us this summer for a one of a kind opportunity to explore and experience nursing practice within a National Health System in the UK! After completion of the course meetings in June on campus, we will travel to Scotland and spend two weeks exploring and learning from Nursing professors, students and practitioners about the similarities and differences between the two countries' delivery of health care. Lodging will be onsite at Glasgow Caledonian University, walking distance to the thriving city of Glasgow and accessible to the many gorgeous areas that Scotland has to offer! Day trips to infamous locations within Scotland will be arranged, including Edinburgh, castles, the Highlands, and the iconic steam engine from Harry Potter! Free time is built into the trip so that students can take advantage of the rail system and visit neighboring areas on their own, getting around has never been easier!
