Course Description: This course will provide an opportunity for students to enhance their understanding of the Reggio Emilia approach to teaching, learning, and advocacy for children at the place where the approach was originated and developed. Students will tour the city of Reggio Emilia led by a community collaborator who values the city’s investment in the education of young children, attend presentations and lectures by pedagogistas, atelieristas, and teachers on the identity and fundamental principles of the Reggio Emilia approach, view the current exhibitions and ateliers comprised of visual, poetic, auditory, and kinesthetic works from Reggio Emilia children and adults, visit various Reggio Emilia Infant Toddler Centers and Preschools in the vicinity, and participate in discussions with people from different contexts, cultures, and experiences to share information about how Reggio Emilia approach can be adopted to address the unique needs of different communities. This course will be beneficial to anyone who are interested in opening a Reggio Emilia inspired child development center or anyone who pursue career opportunities at Reggio Emilia inspired, progressive child development centers.
