Course: ART 499S: Special Studies in Graphic Design
Approximate Travel Cost: $TBA
(includes accommodations and breakfast plus all excursions)
Course Description: Art 499S is a studio class within the BFA Graphic Design Program at the senior level. The course focuses on advanced principles in branding, graphic design, and new media.
The purpose for taking this class is to build on the students’ knowledge of developing a brand strategy; working in team environments; developing skills in new media, packaging, collateral, typography and other design principals.
The course relates to the overall curriculum by developing graphic design solutions to be placed in the student’s portfolios. Students are required to participate in class critiques and presentations throughout the summer course. This is an important skill to refine because it is required for senior graphic design positions.
The method of instruction is to break each assignment into different categories: lecture, first roughs, revised roughs, and final comps. Lectures consist of verbal information accompanied with an outline of the assignment. Examples of related assignments are shown with each lecture. Roughs, revised roughs, and final comps will be presented in a classroom forum. The instructor and students will critique the assignments on its merits and flaws of design, concept, and skills.
