Program Description:
The Fall program will take place on the campus of University Gaston Berger and its neighboring village of Sanar near St. Louis, northern Senegal. A summer course and internships will also spend periods on the Sustainable Neighbors Network Campus in Dakar and in other ecovillages.  American and Senegalese students will study and work together with villagers on sustainability projects determined by their majors and their interests and by village priorities. The semester provides a:
   Theory oriented course on sustainable development in West Africa,
   Language course in French and francophone literature or beginning Wolof
   Independent study course in which mentors guide student-village teams in
          researching information for their projects
   Action research course during which the teams create their projects 

The program includes training sessions in cross-cultural communications and empathy, leadership and human rights. There will be study visits in Dakar as well as ecological demonstration sites of the African Global Ecovillage Network (GEN Africa) in the beach-side villages of Ngaparou and Pointe Sarene.
